Yangwei Liu (3rd from right) who joined TongLab in fall 2010 after finishing a MS in Applied Science at William & Mary has successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled "Akanethiolate-Protected Ag Nanoparticles and Clusters: Characterization, Synthesis Optimization and Formation Mechanism Investigation" on December 12, 2016 and become the latest minted PhD from TongLab. His thesis work revealed potentially new mechanism of nucleation for metal nanoparticle growth and different ligand etching chemistry for Ag as compared to Au. His work also demonstrated convincingly that post-synthesis treatment is equally critical in preserving the nanoparticles' size homogeneity. Congratulations to Dr. Yangwei Liu for his deservedly earned doctor of philosophy title after 6.5 years' hard work. TongLab wish him the best of luck onward.
